The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) develops clinical guidelines that provide physicians with comprehensive recommendations for the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with sleep disorders.
These guidelines incorporate the AASM’s evidence-based practice parameters and supplement them with consensus-based recommendations formed by a task force of experts. Specific content areas covered by the guidelines include methods of diagnosis, treatment options and recommended long-term management strategies.
The guidelines are reviewed by independent content experts before they are submitted to the AASM Board of Directors for approval. The approved clinical guidelines are then published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
The AASM reviews the clinical guidelines on a regular basis and provides updates or revisions when needed.
