Since 1975 the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has been helping sleep disorders centers and laboratories for sleep related breathing disorders thrive in a competitive marketplace for health care providers.

As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and laboratories for sleep related breathing disorders, the AASM identifies sleep medicine providers who offer the highest quality of medical care for people with sleep problems.

The AASM also encourages Medicare and private health insurance providers to link the reimbursement of sleep services to AASM accreditation. Realizing that accreditation leads to improvements in patient care, many of these providers now cover sleep services only if they are performed in an AASM-accredited facility.

Recognized as the leading voice in the field of sleep medicine, the AASM has an influential role in positioning its accredited members as trusted providers of sleep-related medical care.
