Current Topics in Sleep Medicine: Sleep Deprivation and the Metabolic Syndrome Webinar
March 30, 2010
Online Webinar
12:00pm CDT

This webinar, presented by Fred Turek, PhD, will cover how the causes of obesity and the complications that arise from it entail a combination of genetic, physiological, and behavioral factors. Interestingly, recent epidemiological and clinical studies indicate that the control of sleep-wake states may be an important factor in the regulation of energy metabolism. For example, numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a relationship between reduced sleep time and risk factors for obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Weather Cancellation Policy

In the event that a registrant is unable to attend a course due to severe weather forcing airline cancellations or airport closures, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine will apply 50 percent of the individual’s registration fees toward another AASM course held within 12 months.

Within 30 days after the course the registrant must provide documentation from the airport or airline confirming the inability to travel due to severe weather.

This policy does not apply to the SLEEP Annual Meeting; the length and nature of this event provides registrants sufficient time to make alternate travel arrangements to attend a portion of the event.
